Major: Marketing and Accounting
Year: Junior
Editorial Board: What is your class load like for next year and what will your other responsibilities be?
John Baxley: Class load is actually pretty light. My focus on job hunting and taking the CPA exam for accounting. I have a jobwith admissions which is a very irregular basis.
EB: Why are you running for this ASWU position?
JB: I really want to bring all of my different experiences at this school together. Clubs are a great way to learn outside of the classroom, which is really where the best kind of learning happens. It’s a great opportunity for me to serve the school in a way that serves my talents. I’m part of the business club and deans student advisory board.
EB: What three things do you want to have accomplished by the end of the first semester?
JB: 1. I really want to build a sense of collaboration with clubs. Have club presidents interact in a way that they don’t usually do.
2. Get people trained up on the policies that will really hopefully streamline the process.
3. Definitely want to see an increase in club activity. I really want to bring in networking in the community and help them connect with places to have more events. I really want to sit down with the club president and have them give me long term goals and allow them to reach goals that they aren’t sure they can make happen but try and make it a reality.
EB: What is the relationship between ASWU and the Whitworthian?
JB: I’m kind of behind the scenes and you guys are the way to get the word out. I would always have my door open if I were to be elected. I want to make that information more accessible. Really my job isn’t to get my goals accomplished, its to get information out to the Whitworth community and the Whitworthian helps facilitate that.
EB: What are your weaknesses in terms of the position you’re running for?
JB: I definitely have a problem balancing my accounting and marketing strengths and really the past couple of years have been me trying to bring those two things together.
EB: Why should we vote for you rather than your opponent?
JB: I really feel like I bring a unique perspective and my previous leadership experience in the business school. I’ve been where the club presidents are, dealt with the budget and I really hope having that will help. I really love meeting new people.
EB: Is there anything else we need to know about you to make this decision?
JB: The reason I was a write in was because I was juggling all these responsibilities and at the last minute I decided I could fully throw myself into this position. I didn’t want to be in this position if I wasn’t committed. I want you to know this is where my priorities are if I were to be elected.
