The men’s track and field team beat out 15 teams including Gonzaga and Washington State to win World War #5 last Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College with 113 points.
Senior Carter Comito won the shot put with a throw of 17-91 meters and the discus with a throw of 55-3 meter.
“Discus didn’t go as well as I was hoping coming off of a personal record from last week,” Comito said. “But I was happy with my performance in shot.”
Junior Jonathan Hoff won the long jump with a distance of 6-62 meters and added a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.35.
“It was actually pretty funny because I finished long jump about a minute before my [110 meter] hurdles race,” Hoff said. “I was warming up [for the hurdles] in between jumps so that was interesting.”
Adding to Comito’s observation about the weather, Hoff admitted the wind did impact his jumps despite his long jump win.
“It made it difficult to jump on the board,” Hoff said. “I either scratched or was really far behind the board.”
Sophomore Joseph Green and senior Chibron Tomeo finished first and second in the pole vault clearing 4-6 and 4-45 meters, respectively. Senior Frank Lima finished second in the high jump clearing 2-0 meters. Keegan Shea took second in the hammer throw with a distance of 56-03 meters. Freshman Corey Burt took third in the shot put with a distance of 46-72 meters.
Even though the weather wasn’t the best, the men remained the same as far as coming together as a team, Hoff said.
“I think we performed well,” Hoff said. “As a team we are all really supportive and encouraged by each other which helps when competing.”
As far as conference, the men are still at the top in the team rankings and head track and field coach Toby Schwarz hopes to tack on another consecutive title.
“The men remain undefeated,” Schwarz said. “So that is looking good for conference.”
The Bucs will continue at the Whitworth Twilight Meet on Thursday, April 18 at the Pine Bowl starting at 2 p.m.
