Whitworth men’s golf team placed first at their home event against Spokane Community College at The Kalispel Club scoring +20.
“We got to compete against my old school, which is SCC. There were some players I knew on the team. [It] was a lot of fun to compete against them,” junior Sam Pauly said. “We ended up winning by eleven shots over them, which always feels good – beating your old school on our home course,” Pauly said.
Caleb Belton shot a 71 (-1) for the individual win.
This was the first tournament where all 11 players on Whitworth’s men’s team got to compete.
Whitworth’s individual scores were: Pauly (77), Gabe Cach (79), Grant McDonald (79), Oliver Nordberg (81), Jacob Rawley (81), Landon Spencer (82), Aaron Storem (83), Isaac Janzen (88), Grady Burkett (88) and Isaac Cortes (97).
“It wasn’t exactly our best team score or performance, but we finished strong,” Belton said.
As the fall season came to an end, the team placed in the top three for all five tournaments they competed in, also winning first place in one tournament.
“We are sitting in second place in the league so we have some work to put in this offseason to play our best in the spring to end our 2021-22 season strong,” Pauly said.
