For many years, the senior class of Whitworth University has received ‘Senior Discount Cards’ which have special deals with local businesses on them. However, this year, the cards are not yet available for students to use.
The graduating class of 2025 may not have received the usual discount cards on their last first day, but they can still look forward to the cards coming soon. Typically, the senior class at Whitworth University has received discount cards from the Senior Class Coordinator on their last first day of school. Senior discount cards traditionally have a variety of discounts for students to use throughout their last year at Whitworth.
Normally, the Senior Class Coordinator is hired in the spring before their role begins and they can use the summer break to coordinate with local Spokane businesses to get the cards done. However, this year the Senior Class Coordinator, Sierra Pauley, was hired in late July and has not had the same amount of time to finish these cards.
Despite that, Pauley has been working hard to finish the cards as soon as possible while getting as many companies on the cards as possible for seniors to use. Pauley says she is keeping most of them a surprise, but she did tease that one company she is especially excited about having on these cards is Crave Cookies located at 513 E. Hastings Rd.
Crave Cookies is a franchise corporation that started in Salt Lake City, Utah. According to the owner of the Spokane location, Rod Hullinger, Crave Cookies is a “gourmet cookie company” which started up about five years ago and has been franchising for about half of that time. This is Crave Cookies’ first time being involved in the Senior Discount Cards and they are excited to be joining this opportunity.
“We just hope that it’s someplace where people enjoy coming,” Hullinger says.
Pauley said that she had heard some disappointment from students about not having the cards yet. “We did hear back from people on the last first day saying, ‘Where are they?’ And that was rough because I felt bad. I wanted to be able to give it to them. But I didn’t want to rush it too much because I want to try and get as many people on the card as I can.”
The cards are still being finalized, and Pauley says her goal is to have them available at the Info Desk in the HUB within the next week or so. Students are encouraged to drop by during her office hours or email her at [email protected] with any questions or concerns about the coming year.
