On Nov. 6, a truck bearing a confederate flag labeled with the words “In God We Trust” was seen in the visitor parking spots across from the Lied Center for the Visual Arts. It was first sighted around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
By 12:30 p.m., the flag had been vandalized. It was torn in half. There were sticky notes left on the truck with a message saying, “You are a traitor against the U.S.A.”
Around 3 p.m., the owner was seen talking to a security officer. The truck left at 3:06 p.m.
On Nov. 7, the Office of the President and the Associated Students of Whitworth University sent out statements through email identifying the confederate flag as a symbol of racism.
Reporters from The Whitworthian attempted to get a statement from the truck driver, but security refused on behalf of both parties.
