On March 12, 2025, the Whitworth Career Center hosted its Internship Fair at the Whitworth HUB MPR from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event featured a variety of employers offering internships in fields such as marketing, computer science, business, health sciences and volunteer opportunities. The event provided students with the opportunity to connect with potential employers and explore internship options for the summer and fall of 2025.
Tracy Mouser, director of the Center for Career & Professional Development, explained that this was the second year of the Internship Fair. In previous years, the Career Center had organized general job and internship fairs, but this event was specifically focused on internships to help students gain experience early in their careers. The employers attending were looking for interns to fill summer and fall positions.
Mouser said that 22 employers participated in the event, and within the first half-hour, over 25 students had visited. For students looking for internships or full-time positions, Mouser recommended using Handshake, the university’s job platform, and making an appointment with the Career Center for personalized help.
Christ’s Kitchen, a nonprofit organization focused on providing job training for women in poverty, was one of the organizations present at the fair. Representatives Kathleen Vertner and Olivia Sandvik, both interns at the organization, shared the nonprofit’s mission to help women overcome challenges such as abuse, incarceration and difficulties entering or re-entering the workforce. In addition to job training, Christ’s Kitchen offers support in developing personal and social skills.
Vertner, a current Whitworth student, described how the internship at Christ’s Kitchen allowed her to gain a broader understanding of the challenges faced by the women the organization serves. Sandvik, a Gonzaga student, mentioned how her experience at Christ’s Kitchen helped her develop various skills. Both interns highlighted the value of the internship in gaining experience in nonprofit work and learning new skills.
William Tippitt, a senior psychology student at Whitworth, attended the fair to gain insight into the job market and explore different career paths. He explained that the event introduced him to opportunities he hadn’t considered before and helped him understand how his skills might apply in other fields.
The Whitworth Internship Fair 2025 served as a great opportunity for students to connect with employers and explore potential internship opportunities.
