The 10th annual HEAT scallywag scurry, taking place this year on April 26, will be a color run to celebrate the club’s event. The HEAT workers hope the color run attracts many participants and expect the run to be a fun time that precedes ASWU’s Springfest Loop-a-Palooza.
The Health Education Action Team (HEAT) is involved in organizing and facilitating the event. The team decided to change this year’s event to a color run in hopes of making it a fun experience for participants. Erica Hanson, a current HEAT member, said, “It’s our 10th anniversary 5K run, and to celebrate that anniversary, we’re making it special by making it a color run.”
The color run will consist of a non-competitive 5K race around Whitworth campus and the back forty, with participants being showered in color powder every kilometer. It is recommended that runners wear white clothing, sunglasses and possibly a hat. It is important to know that participation in the event will result in worn items being colored.
Check-in for the run began at 11:15 a.m., and the race began at 12 p.m. in the loop, just outside of the Whitworth library. All were welcome to participate in the event, but should have registered online through the UREC website or in person at the event.
The idea for the event was thought of by some of the members of the current HEAT team as a fun way of getting students and faculty to participate in the race. Logan Chase, a current HEAT member, said, “We just want to make it a bigger event than it has been in previous years, and hopefully attract a bigger crowd.”
Food trucks were =present at the event and serving runners and those watching the event. The color run kicked off Springfest and preceded ASWU’s Loop-a-Palooza, consisting of food, live music and a variety of games and activities.
HEAT hopes the color run will help create a good time for everyone. “We’re hoping for a good turnout, and it’ll be a lot of fun,” said Hanson.
