Farming is a livelihood often overlooked. People don’t realize the effort it takes to produce a good crop. I captured some of the typical sights you would see in a small rural town in eastern Washington during this time of year, while also capturing the beauty and hard work that goes into farming. I didn’t grow up around farming, but quickly learned to respect it, from the long 10- to 12-hour harvest days to the late nights of seeding. Make sure to feed the animals before you feed yourself, because if you don’t feed them, they don’t eat. You go straight to the farm after school, then come home late and stay up even later to do your homework. To you, it’s an image on a screen, but to them, it’s keeping the farm alive for the next generation, which isn’t easy with rising prices. Many of you have stopped in the town where these photos were captured, but didn’t know what was just around the corner.
