Dobbins highlights Whitworth performance in Idaho

Sophomore Christina Dobbins grabbed a first place victory and an overall personal best in the high jump with a height of 5’06’’ to help lead the Pirates in Idaho last weekend. She improved her personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.25.

“The meet at Idaho went much better than I was expecting it to go for me,” Dobbins said. “I was excited to get PR’s (personal record) in high jump and hurdles because I have been working on them at practice.”

The 4×400 relay team snatched up third place with a time of 4:22.97, improving their best by four seconds. Freshman, Madeline Dinsmore ran a leg in this relay including the 60-meter giving her another PR with a time of 8.21. For her, the transition from high school to college proves to be difficult but worth it.

“I am very happy with the opportunity to compete collegiately,” Dinsmore said. “It makes meets fun when you see everyone getting PR’s after tough weeks of training and everyone else on their off time is cheering each other on. We have a lot of talent this year and are all ready for outdoor to start.”

The turnout of fresh and new competitors including Dobbins and Dinsmore proves to bring promise to senior captain, Stephanie Barrong and the outdoor season closing in.

“Our women’s team is looking so good this year. We have a good number of very talented girls in each event, and we are hoping/planning on winning the Conference championship this year,” Barrong said.

Whitworth’s outdoor season will open at the Pine Bowl Friday, Feb. 22 with the Crimson vs. Black meet starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.
