This past weekend the Whitworth women’s volleyball team traveled to Salem, Oregon to compete against Willamette University. The Pirates won the match with a final score of 3-1. In the first round they fell to Willamette 15-21, however the Pirates won the next three rounds with scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-19. The Pirates are now 9-3 in the Northwest Conference with Willamette now sitting at 4-8 in the NWC.
Game leaders included Emiko Kahler, ‘20 , Corinne Bell, ‘18, Taylor Wicht, ‘18 and Gracie Meiners, ‘18. Lauren Budde, ‘19, Madison Douglas, ‘20, and Cassandra Mendoza, ‘18, also had the opportunity to start in the game. By the end of the match Kahler had seventeen kills, Bell had fourteen, in addition to six assists, Wicht had 24 digs, and Meiners had a game total of 54 assists.
“For a lot of us, it is our last season playing and competing together so we really want to give it our all,”Bell said. This season the Pirates have a total of seven seniors.
Overall the Pirates had a hitting percentage of .228. Ten blocks, which was the second highest number of blocks for the Pirates this season, 77 digs, and six aces.
