After coming off a 77-55 win against Linfield this Friday, on Saturday the Whitworth women’s basketball team took on Willamette University for their last game of the 2017-2018 season. The Pirates ended up falling 67-56 to the Bearcats. The Bearcats finished their season 16-9 overall and the Pirates finished their season 10-15 overall and 5-11 in the Northwest Conference
The Pirates started off the game strong, putting themselves in the lead with a score of 26-25 at halftime. Senior Erika Kuehn scored two 3-pointers shortly after the third quarter began, upping the score to 34-25. At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Pirates were down four points with a score of 45-49 and were unable to make up that gap by the end of the game. Freshman Camy Aguinaldo led the Pirates shooting 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Junior Madison Moffat shot 13 points, had nine rebounds, and two steals. Freshman Sierra Jackson said “one of the most challenging parts about tonight’s game was finding good shots to take and making them fall”
Going into their last game, the overall goal was to “play for our seniors, have fun, and go out on a strong note,” Jackson said. This game marked the last for seniors Grace Douglas, Erika Kuehn and Chloe Quinnett. Each one played for the Pirates for four years. Looking back at the season one of the biggest accomplishments for the team was “overcoming all the injuries we had and still playing strong and having fun”
“It has been really incredible having the opportunity to play and we have all learned so much from each other. We have grown not only as basketball players but as people. This is the environment that I look forward to being in next year,” Jackson said.
