Whitworth softball won two out of six this weekend at the Northwest Cup in Clackamas, Oregon.
Solid performances in Friday’s win came from freshman pitcher Emily Anderson, who went 7 innings in a game against the College of Idaho. Anderson held the Coyotes to 6 scoreless innings before giving up a run in the seventh on an RBI double.
Freshman Julia Johnson pinch hit in the eighth inning, hitting a three run walk-off home run to get the win for the Bucs.
Anderson again came through for the Bucs in Sunday’s win against Northwest Christian, pitching a complete game.
Other important Pirate performances on the afternoon included sophomore shortstop Heather Hesselgesser who scored once and had an RBI, junior second baseman Sami Parr who had two RBIs, freshman catcher Erin Ghigleri and freshman outfielder Mackenzie Hope who both had a pair of runs.
Whitworth opens the regular season at Linfield on both Saturday and Sunday.
