The Silver Seniors have challenged Whitworth. The Wii bowling team of Lilac Plaza Retirement Community holds tournaments with opposing teams every six to eight weeks, and now they want to find out what the Whitworth Wii-crowd is made of.
The tournament will be held on March 5 in Sodexo. Students may form teams of four members to play against the skilled residents of the retirement community. Each team must pay 10 dollars to compete. All proceeds from the event go toward Whitworth’s Jamaica S.E.R.V.E team, who will be working in Jamaica with schools for deaf children, orphanages and Vacation Bible School programs.
Seniors Whitney Hedgpeth, Trista VanBerkum and Andrew Gjefle are in charge of off-campus promotion for the event.
The residents of the retirement community will come in with their heads held high and Whitworth should rise to the challenge, Hedgepeth said.
Hedgpeth encourages students to get teams together, and to come watch even if students aren’t competing because the event will be very entertaining.
“It’s going to be a fun way to interact with our community and raise money for our trip,” said Sophomore Tamara Halvorson, a sophomore member of the Jamaica S.E.R.V.E. Team.
Members of the S.E.R.V.E. team will be hosting Prime Times in dorms around campus between now and the day of the tournament to get students excited, Halvorson said.
“It’s going to be intense. Some of them bowl around 300,” Halvorson said.
