On-campus coalitions band together to hold KIPOS Community Garden Harvest Festival

This Saturday, Sept. 25 the KIPOS Community Garden (across the street from The Pines Cafe) at Whitworth will be hosting their Harvest Festival. The event will include music, thrifting, art and more. The festival is an annual celebration of the harvest and the end of the growing season. This year, the event will be hosted by the Environmental Action Coalition, Emmaus, The Art Co-op and art supplies will be provide provided by Art Salvage.

After being canceled last year because of COVID-19, the Harvest Festival is back with a wide array of new activities. The Harvest Festival is a fantastic opportunity for freshman, other students and staff to promote and learn about the garden and its lively culture.

When asked about what events like this can do for the Whitworth community, Maya Markillie, KIPOS garden manager, said, “The hope is that events like this one bring people together to not only have fun hanging out with each other and enjoy awesome food and entertainment, but also tighten the community around the garden and boost interest in garden involvement in the future!”

Markillie said the Harvest Festival is a great opportunity for people to learn about Whitworth’s community garden. It allows students to take a break from the stressful fall semester, enjoy the festival and some fresh produce from the garden.

The garden is located right across the road from the Pines Cafe at 10201 N Lola Ln, Spokane WA 99218. Harvest Festival hours run between 2-5 p.m. this upcoming Saturday. For more information, contact Maya Markillie via [email protected] and 509.777.3337.
