Why are you running for ASWU president?
I am running for president because I feel drawn to being involved with the school and student body as much as possible. I see so much potential for this university and I hope to share ideas and bring others ideas to light as much as possible and within reason. I have a huge heart for this school. I’m also passionate about keeping ASWU more professional and accountable in its actions.
What are the student body’s biggest concerns, and how will you address them?
I feel one of the student’s biggest concerns are the actions of ASWU as of recently with spending the budget and reaching the students. To address that I would make sure that when requisitions are brought forward that quality time would be spent making sure we understand the requisition and that it is something worthwhile for us to spend money on. Also I would make sure that senators are getting the vibes from their constituents more frequently and spending a good amount of time with the students. I would also make sure that I was doing the same with the other execs and taking time to connect with the student body and making ASWU more accessible.
What are the unique ideas, issues, and proposals in your campaign platform?
One of them is making ASWU more accountable for its actions and reaching the students more so next year. I want ASWU to be known by everyone as much as possible because I get vibes from people that say they have no idea who they are or what they do. I aim to address that personally. I also want to write a newsletter every week to be sent to the students to talk about ASWU and what’s going on that week. I also hear a lot about Redbox. If it’s doable, I will try to get it on campus.
What is your number one priority when it comes to this job?
Serving the students to the fullest extent. I want to make their Whitworth experience one to remember.
Why should we vote for you, instead of your opponent?
I believe that I have more usable and practical leadership experience in working various jobs in my life. I’ve been in charge of running youth groups at various churches and serving administration roles as a part of that job. Also I feel that I have a lot more energy and vigor to bring to the presidential role to bring about good change and making the all-around campus vibe awesome!
