Jeremy Honold brings Hawaiian style to Whitworth

Whitworth sophomore Jeremy Honold was born and raised in Hawaii, and has brought his Hawaiian style with him to the campus of Whitworth in Spokane.

Choosing Whitworth brought Honold 3,081 miles from Kapolei, Hawaii to Spokane, Washington.

“I like the atmosphere of Hawaii, it’s very laid back and I can do things at my own pace; it’s nice” he said.

Honold loves to run, and his running attitude reflects his Hawaiian roots.  He runs almost daily at Whitworth, taking various routes in and around campus.

“Running makes me feel at peace, I just like going and seeing where I end up,” he said.

A Sociology major, Jeremy was influenced by the teaching of Sociology Professor Bob Clark’s Intro to Sociology course.

“Sociology is a cool thing to learn, and the intro class was enjoyable,” he said.

A lot like running, Honold knows he has found a passion with sociology but is unsure of where it will take him.  At this point he has no potential jobs in mind but that doesn’t the least bit concern him.

Outside of the classroom, Honold has involved himself at Whitworth through Fellowship of Christian Athletes, leading a small group, and playing on the chapel worship team.

A talented musician, Jeremy plays bass, piano, sings vocals, and plays the guitar.  His favorite instrument is the guitar.

“I started playing it and looked fun, turns out I was right,” he said.

Honold feels he made the right decision coming to Whitworth after considering George Fox University, Azusa Pacific University, and Westmont College.  He is even looking to stay in Spokane and work this summer as he prepares to move off-campus for his junior year.

“They keep us busy here, Whitworth creates a good balance of schoolwork and free time” he said.
