Editorial Board
The Whitworthian staff is dedicated to presenting accurate and relevant information in an innovative manner. Our goal is to be accountable while informing, entertaining and providing a forum for expressing the interests of the Whitworth community. The Whitworthian has served as the main source of news, arts and sports coverage for the Whitworth community since 1905. We are an organization composed entirely of students that produces The Whitworthian website and the once-a-semester magazine In The Loop.
Editorial Staff 2025-2026
Editor-in-Chief (EIC): Kaitlyn McConnell
Hi there! My name is Kaitlyn, and this is my third year being a part of The Whitworthian. This year, I am serving as EIC for a very talented staff of writers, designers, photographers and editors. I am a double major in chemistry and biology, with a minor in neuroscience. When I am not editing, I am usually studying in Robinson, having a coffee at Mind and Hearth or enjoying a walk around campus with my two dogs.
Magazine Editor: Jasmine Schmidt
Hello! My name is Jasmine, and I’m stoked to be the Magazine Editor this year. This is my third year being a part of The Whitworthian, and I’ve loved being a writer, associate editor, and now working with the magazine. When I’m not working on stories, I love stomping through trees, dancing with people and making (r.e: eating) many batches of cookie dough.
Copy Chief: Mariia Yazepova
Hi there! My name is Mariia Yazepova, and this is my second year as a copy chief with The Whitworthian. I’m double-majoring in sociology and communications while also being all over the place, trying out new things. Right now, I am fixated on tuxedo cats and romance movies!

Hi! My name is Hannah, and I am the Sports Associate Editor for The Whitworthian. I’m a senior majoring in english and minoring in communications, and I am also on the Whitworth Cross Country team. When I’m not reading or writing, I’m enjoying the outdoors, running, skiing or trying out local coffee shops.

Hello! My name is Norah McLaughlin, and this is my second year on The Whitworthian. This year I am the News Associate Editor. I am majoring in journalism and media studies, and I’m also a member of the Forensics team. When I’m not writing or editing articles, I love going on walks around campus and getting a sweet treat!

My name is Haley Wallace, and I am the Arts and Culture Associate Editor! I am a communications and environmental science double major. Around campus, you can find me working at the pool as a lifeguard, getting ready to lead Outdoor Rec trips in the UREC, studying with my roommates or writing in the Whitworthian office!
Copy Editor: Andres Aguilera
Hi! My name is Andres, and I’m excited to serve as a Copy Editor for my senior year at The Whitworthian. As a biology major, I’m passionate about science, but I also have a strong interest in journalism and growing in areas beyond my academic focus. Outside of academics, you’ll likely find me on the slopes skiing, in the gym weightlifting or sipping a fresh cup of coffee.

Hello! I’m Sam Wiser, one of the Copy Editors for The Whitworthian. I’m a sophomore majoring in English and pursuing minors in editing/publishing, creative writing and art history. Outside of academics, I’m a fan of all things nerdy, particularly Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.

Hello, my name is Maddy, and I am the Photo Editor this year. I am currently a Junior studying accounting with a minor in Psychology. I have been interested in photography my whole life, but my passion really started when I was a sports photographer for my high school yearbook. Outside of the Whitworthian, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, gaming, and trying new coffee shops.

Hello! I’m Hannah – a junior studying front-end design with a passion for all things creative. When I’m not designing, you can find me in the music department playing percussion or relaxing around campus with a good book and a cup of tea.

Talofa Lava, my name is Kian Vae’ena. I’m a second-year double major in education and history. This is my first year being a designer on the team. When I’m not competing in the pool, you can find me surfing or rollerskating.
