Financial Vice Presidential Candidate: Courtney Edwards

Major: Accounting and Marketing

Year: Junior

Editorial Board: What is your class load like next year and what will your other responsibilities be?

Courtney Edwards: I’ll be in 12-15 credits both semesters depending on kind of just what happens with scheduling. I have a part-time job downtown with the Spokane Chiefs.

EB: Why are you running for the ASWU position?

CE: Initially it was because people wrote me in. it was encouragement that other people thought I could do it. I realized it was something I could do. I talked to the current FVP and she said she would do it again, and I think that was a good motivator.

EB: What three things do you want to have accomplished by the end of the first semester if you are elected?

CE: 1. Keeping good communication with the students and the clubs.

2.  Keeping the clubs well informed, not necessarily just with finances and also keeping everybody on the same page.

3. Tax program to offer to students as they leave college.

EB: What is the relationship between ASWU and the Whitworthian?

CE: I think there should be a lot of collaboration and communication. ASWU could definitely use the Whitworthian for a lot of that communication to students that should happen. I would stay really well connected. Make sure all the facts are right by having people on both sides check.

EB: What are your weaknesses in terms of the position you’re running for?

CE: There are a lot of people involved, which can be stressful and overwhelming. Its something to work on, but its an initial weakness.

EB: Why should we vote for you rather than your opponent?

CE: I would promote myself as a very relational person and I work really well with people with different levels of authority. I’m one of the biggest advocates of organization. With being an RA I’ve been a part of a lot of different meetings and kind of being able to keep things on track and under control has been big. I’ve definitely had experience with things like that and in that realm. I’m really open to other people’s ideas and I try to blend that with my own.

EB: Is there anything else we need to know about you to make this decision?

CE: I can work with different people. I’m a very self-motivated person and I can work very well by myself.
