In the wake of the controversy surrounding ASWU President Tersa Almaw and her deciding vote to not invite Ben Shapiro to campus, a couple important things seem to be getting missed.

To have been a queer student on Whitworth University’s campus for the past two weeks is to have been surrounded by the debate over whether or not Ben Shapiro should be allowed to come to campus.

With the AWSU assembly vote tied nine to nine, President Tersa Almaw served as a tiebreaker, voting in opposition of inviting Shapiro, a popular conservative commentator who was recently turned down by Gonzaga University.
