Whitworth women’s golf traveled to Bremerton, Washington Sept. 29-30 to compete in the University of Puget Sound Invitational, and placed third in the overall team standings.
Cheyenne Marchand, Maggie Peters, Jaymie Pentony, Allie Slingsby, and Ali Brandt all competed on the Cascade Course at the Gold Mountain Golf Club Saturday and Sunday. Both days of competition were close both individually and in the team realm.
Other schools competing were Lewis and Clark College, Cal Lutheran University, Pacific Lutheran University, North Idaho Community College, and the host, University of Puget Sound. Each team was represented by five women.
After the first day of play, the Pirates were in fourth place, but remained only one stroke behind Pacific Lutheran with another full day of play ahead. On the individual scale, Marchand posted the best score of the team, tied for eighth with a stroke count of eight over par. Close behind her was Peter’s in ninth place with ten over par.
Sunday, however, the team pushed past Pacific Lutheran in the team standings and posted a team score of 326 strokes to place third overall behind Lewis and Clark and Cal Lutheran. Peters moved significantly in the individual standings, taking 75 strokes (only three over par) to end with thirteen over par. She tied for third in the tournament but had the best stroke count of any of the individual players on Sunday.
As for the rest of the Pirates, Pentony finished fourteenth with +22, Marchand and Slingsby tied for fifteenth with +24, and Brandt nineteenth with a +29.
In addition to competing on the golf course, the Lady Bucs explored Bremerton, documented with the Whitworth Snapchat and on their Instagram, @whitworthwomensgolf, including finding new restaurants and jumping into the Hood Canal.
The team competes next on the Weekend of October 8th and 9th in Liberty Lake, Washington.
